The aim of this article is to shoot out some thoughts which maybe you did not really think about and hopefully, these simple lines will help you on your path.
I read somewhere long ago an answer to a question and I remember it to this day. The question was: "Which chocolate (type) is the best to eat when trying to lose weight or when following a diet program?".
To my surprise the short answer was: "The cheapest one". I started laughing immediately after reading that. Of course the word "chocolate" and "diet" or "losing weight" do not go together! We are so great at cheating ourselves!
I once went to a supermarket and saw very nice boxes of chocolate and I convinced myself that I should buy not one but several so that I can give them as presents (and this is while I was on a low carb diet! ). When I came home and sorted all the food I saw the chocolate boxes and I said "ok, I have been doing a good job with my diet and I deserve some reward, so I will take one box for myself and have one piece per day". And, as you guessed it right, that box was finished by the end of the day! Aren't we amazing?
On the note of cheating ourselves... how many times have we started one or another type of a diet only to drop it a few days down the line or "conveniently" forgetting about it or justifying it that right now is not a good time because of this and this temporary complication in our lives?
That thought brings me to another - the way of thinking about the tasty stuff. How did I get over eating lots of sweets and the like is that I simply thought to myself after buying a chocolate bar from one of those too easy to use and always happen to be on your way vending machines
"Hmm... I really really like this, but I'll finish eating it in few minutes and then I am going to feel guilty about it for hours... is it worth it?"
With that thought in mind I would like to jump over to something basic I learned in economics. They have this concept in economics where they say "Ok, you want to spend 200 on a new phone. What else could you do with that same amount of money?"
Translating this for our Weight Loss Made Easy article, when I bought the chocolate bar, it gave me roughly speaking 300+ calories of energy. Now, I can ask myself, what else could I have eaten instead for the same amount and a lot of people would be shocked to discover the answer.
For example, I could have eaten two plates of rice or a big chicken breast or a sandwich of warm village bread with nice Swiss cheese or an omelette with 2 eggs and a cut up sausage, etc, etc, etc. And actually, I really prefer having any of these things than the chocolate bar, because I also really like them and I feel very full and satisfied from these, whereas you still end up hungry after the chocolate bar.
