Contrary to the spread belief six pack has little to do with sit-ups and crunches. If you do only those and have nice abs, they will still be well hidden behind a layer of fat, which we all have.
So the secret to having a six pack is losing that layer of fat up to the point where your ab muscles are visible. This is a very difficult job to accomplish and requires from the person to be active on daily basis and become an expert of nutrition.
Just to give you an idea or better understanding:
- If two people, say Jack and Bob, both overweight, started working out and Jack did only weights and crunches and the like and Bob did only cardio, then in most cases Bob would have a very nice stomach compared to Jack who would look pretty big with muscles + the fat that he didn't lose.
- A regular healthy person has about 19% of body fat. Flat stomach, but no muscle visible. At around 13% body fat this person will be considered as having a "very attractive" body. At around 7% body fat this person would be a body builder.
